The Panamanian Association of Translators and Interpreters (APTI) is pleased to announce its Third International Congress on Translation and Interpretation.
The theme of the Congress: "Innovation, Challenges, and Technological Competitiveness" is designed to underscore the role of the translator and interpreter as cultural mediator in the process of intercultural communication, its evolution, changes, and adaptation to new challenges over time.
All communications need a context in which to develop, and there will always be cultural components in this context. The spoken language reflects the nature of the society in which it originates, its customs and traditions, the priorities and preferences of its inhabitants, and their perspective of the world.
TOPICS OF INTEREST:
The main topics to be discussed may touch upon but are not limited to the following:
Linguistics, project management and marketing, technology and innovation, indigenous languages, sign language interpretation, finance, law, medicine, literature, terminology and training.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
The papers should give rise to an oral presentation, indicating the estimated length, ranging from a minimum of 30 minutes to a maximum of 2 hours, depending on the type of session. Papers should address topics of interest to the profession or topics related to the theme of the Congress.
Format and structure of the paper:

Subject line to state: “Proposal – APTI Congress 2019”.

Submit an abstract in paragraph form (not to exceed 200 words).

Provide a biographical statement (not to exceed 200 words) and include contact information.

Submission must include title, introduction, objectives, methodology, discussion, and conclusion.

The abstract must be presented in English or Spanish.

Deadline for submitting proposals is October 5th, 2018.

Proposal acceptance will be notified before October 25, 2018. It will be sent together with information relating to registration, lodging, and norms for publication. To participate in the Congress as a speaker and facilitate the publication of papers, all presentations must be submitted in electronic format, no later than December 20, 2018.

The official languages of the Congress are Spanish and English.

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided during the Congress.
